19 Apr 2019 | Over the past few months, I have done extensive research, looking for information on former UHS students. Using the obituary database in the Monroe County Library, Find-A-Grave, 1930 & 1940 censuses, the Social Security Deaths Index, the database of marriages in MyHeritage.com, and Ancestry.com, I have updated the data for many people. 26 people who were pictured in earlier Jordannuses were added to the database for this class. -- Dave Gray '65 |

Herald-Times Juanita Ruth (Graebe) Gifford passed away on January 17, 2011 in Bloomington. She was born in Clark County, Indiana, to Lee and Geneva (Ross) Graebe. She married William Gifford in 1946, and he preceded her in death in 1972. Nita is survived by her children, William Gifford, of Las Vegas, Janet Gifford, of Boston, and Gloria Reed (Chipper), of Bloomington; sisters, Irma Curry, of Bloomington and Lou (UHS '44) Souers (Bernie), of Zionsville; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by 16 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and by brothers, Gene and Ross Graebe, and sisters, Ruby Truelock and Betty Stevens. Nita often stated family is the most important thing. She was an avid bridge player, enjoyed gardening, and was a knowledgeable sports enthusiast. She volunteered for years at the First Christian Church, where she had belonged since the age of 12. |

Herald-Times Carolyn Nan (Weir) Thompson died January 18, 2011 in Bloomington. She was the daughter of E.T. Weir and Grace (Watson) Weir. The family moved to Bloomington in 1928 where her parents operated Weir Funeral Home until World War II. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, William Franklin Weir, Major Charles Weir and Warren Weir; and her son Eric J. Thompson. She is survived by her husband, James F. Thompson; one son, Col. George C. Thompson; and a granddaughter, Joanna Thompson; along with surviving members of University School, Class of 1942. She attended Fairview and McCalla schools, University School and Indiana University. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and the Quill and Scroll society. She was a staff member of the Quad and wrote a column of school news for the Daily Telephone. During her married life of 63 years, as an Army wife she lived in Japan, Germany and France and at numerous Air Force and Army stations in the United States, returning to Bloomington in 1965. She traveled widely and was a member of the Trod the 24 (time zone clubs) and Bloomington Sexton Ballroom Dance Club. She worked as a saleslady at the Kings Shop and the Vogue in Bloomington, as a library assistant at I.U., as a poll taker for Lou Harris Polling Service, and as an assistant in her husbands law office. |
1/21/09 | Joan Kinsey Reid died on January 14, 2009, at Annapolis, Maryland. Born and raised in Bloomington, Indiana, she resided in Columbus, Indiana. She is survived by two daughters; her sister, Anne Kinsey Call (UHS '42) of Bloomington, Indiana; her brother, Bruce M. Kinsey (UHS '46), of Northville, Michigan; and by two grandchildren. |
